Photo courtesy of Fox Sports In his NHL debut Saturday night with the Carolina Hurricanes, they not only beat the New York Islanders 3-1 but he was named first star. With his parents Jeff and Janice and younger brother Alex in the stands Peters stopped two breakaways and made several other outstanding saves. Carolina coach Paul Maurice said he couldn't ease in goalie Justin Peters like other rookies. But the 23-year-old Peters didn't need much assistance in his NHL debut, turning aside 34 shots to lead the Hurricanes to a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night. "I was so happy for him," Maurice said. "It's the one position where you have to go in and be good for the team to win. He didn't get lucky. He didn't get any breaks and had to fight for the puck. He's worked hard for that chance." Peters had dressed as the backup for the Hurricanes a handful of times but had never seen any regular season action. Speaking to reporters after the game the 23 year old admitted it was pretty emotional. Peters said he had worked very hard for this chance and it couldn't have gone any better.
